We are a family business located in the area close to Orlické hory. We deal with manufacturing of wood wool and products made of it. Our factory is located in the building of a former mill in the municipality of Dolní Čermná. We provide work for more than twenty local residents there. We continue in the business tradition housed at the same address. The tradition was founded by a miller called Josef Appl in 1888.
We have been gaining experience with processing of wood wool shortly after the Velvet Revolution, i.e. November 1989. It all started when the back then neglected area had been given back to two brothers, namely Emil and Jiří Appl. They made a deal with Emil’s son-in-law Miroslav Švec that together they would try to spark the business tradition in the area. A decision had been made to devote our attention to a field that we understood well, and which had had a long tradition in the region – wood processing. A company named Švec-Appl was formed, later it was renamed to Švec Wood Wool Ltd. Manufacturing of wood wool has extended over the years in the form of various products – we started to form wood wool into cords, being among the firsts in the Czech Republic. This enabled us to produce eco-friendly firelighters.
At present the company supplies with its products more than a hundred manufacturers and businesspeople on the Czech market. Apart from that, we also export our products into several countries within the EU as well as to some other countries. We feel responsible for the local landscape. Therefore, we are holders of FSC and PEFC certificates. This means that we purchase wood from forests that are managed eco-friendly towards nature and landscape.
